TEST DRIVE MEME #1

No gimmicky dinosaur setup this time round, since the game is actually rolling now! If you've got a character you want to try out in this setting, make a thread with them on here, and if you don't, see if you can tag other people with your characters.

Test drive threads can be anything you like, in-person or online, just make it clear which one your thread is when you start it. Make sure to put the name of the character and what canon they're from in the subject, so people know who they are and where they come from.

Can I use test drive threads as samples for my app?
Indeed you may, fair stranger

Can I decide a test drive thread is game canon?
Heck yeah you can, provided the person you threaded it with is cool with that too!

As the Disciple sits in the part, some kind of public performance makes itself obvious. There is a man in a long plaid shirt surrounded by a throng of excited children, who seems to be pontificating on the subject of "magic" while doing various tricks. At once point he produces a living bird from behind one of the children's ears.

Perhaps it is a bit more than sleight of hand.

"Take the advise that the universe gives you," he says to them, apparently in conclusion to the show. "And listen to your to your gut." He gently smacks a fist against his abdomen and a couple of the children laugh. "The signs that shine brightest are the ones that find you. Goodnight, everybody!"

The children all part as the sun begins to set, their parents coming to fetch them and bring them home. The young man stands alone of the grass for a few moments, ostensibly mumbling to himself, though his eyes eventually rest on her. Looking distracted from whatever he was doing, he comes over to her.

"Hi," he says to her, smiling. "Can you speak English?"

When the sounds of the show had broken Disciple out of her reverie, she gave it her full attention. A faint smile found its way to her lips. That's not something you would see on Alternia, at least not often. Even she finds herself rather impressed by the performance the man gives, and she can't help but be a little warmed by the ecstatic reactions of the human wigglers.

One of the things that had been a surprise in her reading was the human family unit. Perhaps it was because her own lusus had been a mammal, and because she had seen the honest and deep love between the Signless and Dolorosa, but she found herself taken by it. Doubtless many trolls would find it weird, and perhaps even disgusting but Di couldn't help but regard it--and by extension, human wigglers (or children) with some fondness.

When the show ends she's a little disappointed and slips back into her thoughts. It's the sound of his approaching footsteps that first catch her attention and she lists a slightly wary gaze to him. Wary, but not hostile.

At the question, she gives a small nod of her head. "I do," granted she was better at understanding than speaking it, but she had done quite well in the couple months she was here, "nice show."

"Thanks!" he says, easily. He has a fairly ancient looking book tucked under his arm, which he shifts around as he reaches into one of his pockets. He clenches something in his fist and presses it into her palm.

It's a coin, ostensibly worth one american dollar. It's a little scuffed up, but still shines in the dim lighting.

"A little girl gave this to me - she said she was given it by the tooth fairy on her sixth birthday, this month. I think it's lucky. You should have it."

Di takes the coin, slowly turning it around in her finger. It's a little weird to be presented with a coin like this. Granted, she doesn't think it's worth that much but she isn't accustomed to receving gifts, much less from strangers.

She hates feel so cynical--hates it--but she can't help but wonder at this minor altruism.

"That's very kind of you." Her tone is questioning and a brow is raised.

[personal profile] magicgasm 2014-03-18 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Her skepticism seems to just roll of his shoulders, as he sits down on the bench next to her, but at a respectful distance. He's glancing up at the sky as he speaks.

"It's not much, really, in the grand scheme of things," he says, still smiling slightly, but more subdued. "Though she did tell me it was her very first baby tooth - that's a good one."

That lifts the corners of her mouth a tiny bit. Slowly she pockets the coin in her jacket, keeping her hands inside to keep them warm. She angles herself slightly towards Jack. He seems ok so far, and meeting people had been the whole point of coming out here. She's still tense and a little lost on what to even say but she isn't going to let such insecurities rule her forever.

"I'd say that's fairly important then. Thanks. I could use a little luck," after a moment she nodded, indicating the book that he held in his hands, "what is it?"

The curiosity wasn't feigned despite the difficulty she had been having with reading recently.

It seemed like she had, for a variety of reasons. Some not as obvious as others - he'd just been talking about the important of signs, after all.

"What? Oh, this?" He lifts up the book. It's some kind of thick, musty tome, with yellowed pages. A moment later he murmurs, seemingly to the book itself: "Shh. Be cool. Just let me talk to her."

"This is Tomie!" he says to her. "He's a good friend of mine."

Did he just...talk to that book?

Disciple didn't really know how to react to that. It was one of the moments she had fear where she didn't know if this was a normal every day thing in this planet and time or not. She had seen a number of miraculous and seemingly impossible things in the form of technology and powers she had never heard of before.

She really didn't want to look stupid, but there really was no way of knowing unless she asked.

"Oh. Is he...what kind of book is [It? He? He.] he?
magicgasm: (so that's good)

"The unknowably magical kind, mostly," he says. "I found him in my attic years ago. He's how I became a mage." He's glad that, in this day and age, you could usually just say you were magic and have people believe you - or at least that it was some kind of regular superhuman stuff. Perhaps aliens were less up on this kind of thing, though.

"...Unfortunately, I'm the only one that can actually hear him talk. It's made me look like a lunatic more than once, let me tell you..."

Maybe this is one of those times, who knows.

Hearing voices that others could not hear was not unusual. Psiioniic had, and Di knew many other psychics did. Signless had had his visions. Hearing things from a book was a little different, however, but she was willing to give Jack the benefit of the doubt.

"Well, it's good to meet you too then, Tomie. I'm Magdayma." That was a name she hadn't given anyone in a long time, even excluding the 2000 years she had been kept asleep. It had once been a very intimate act for her, but it meant all of nothing now.

"I don't think I caught your name?" She lifted her gaze back to Jack.

[personal profile] magicgasm 2014-03-19 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Tomie says hi," Jack says. He holds out his hand to shake. "And I'm Jack the Plaid. Nice to meet you, Magdayma. What brings you to Earth?"

That was a rather loaded question. It hadn't really been her choice after all. Hell, she hadn't even known of the existence of this planet until she woke up on it.

"Necessity." It seemed like an honest enough answer without getting into details she wasn't comforting sharing, and details that would probably just make the conversation uncomfortable.

"Life is not the safest back on Alternia, I did not really have much going there, and I had some people willing to help here, so why not? It has been a learning experience, that is for certain."

WUYA | XIAOLIN SHOWDOWN | At some high end thrift shop

[personal profile] heylinmagic 2014-03-23 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Haunting antique stores and thrift shops wasn't exactly Wuya's preferred method of finding magic artifacts, but she really hadn't had enough downtime recently to do any more thorough searching. She had been planning on scoping out the latest UCLA museum exhibit before it's untimely disappearance. In this day and age a girl couldn't take over the world with raw talent alone.

She wasn't exactly hard to miss, with her dark red hair and stiletto heels. As one of the top models in the city, she'd been on enough magazine covers that she had gained quite a bit of notoriety.

She'd been wandering the store for at least a halfhour, checking almost every knick knack for even the slightest magical qualities. She was in the process of sorting through a bin of paperweights and other office supplies, the irritation at her so far fruitless search starting to show in her expression.

As it turns out, Wuya isn't the only one to think of scouring thrift shops for magical objects. Kippat, despite not really knowing what a thrift shop is, noticed the variety of items in the window displays of the shop while she was walking down the street. A quick peek into the store revealed even more kinds of items as far as she could see. She decided that surely even these humans must have magical objects, and a good strategy for finding useful ones would be to check places with great variety in goods.

She's returned to the thrift shop with a device for detecting magical energies at close range, since she has no affinity for magic herself. She spends about fifteen minutes scanning miscellaneous objects in the back of the store before she gets frustrated. It occurs to her that she can obviously just ask whoever is managing the shop if they carry any magical things. Why didn't she think of that earlier?

As she weaves around corners toward the shopkeeper, Kippat spots the tall, red-haired woman also searching through items. She seems just as frustrated as Kippat. "You can't find what you're looking for, can you?" There's some disdain in her voice; she didn't speak out of a desire to be helpful.

Wuya drops yet another useless trinket into the box, turning to her questioner.

"Well it's not exactly as if anything is organized here, now is it." She stops, looking down at the small creature, looking a little surprised, but not for long. She wasn't unfamiliar with inhuman creatures, she had been around a while. She leaned casually on the shelf, giving the small creature a bemused look.

"And just what exactly are you supposed to be? It's been a while since I've seen any sort of gremlins like you around."
prankwar: (hmm)

RUDE

[personal profile] prankwar 2014-03-30 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm an asura, smart one," Kippat responds, crossing her arms. She shrugs. "But then again, I shouldn't expect you to know that. You're just a human, after all. Not good for much anything besides reaching items on high shelves." These are some truly devastating insults, she thinks, and only a select part of her repertoire. Maybe being around so many humans will help sharpen her skills.

She nods her head in the direction of the cashier. "Why don't you just ask the shopkeeper if this store carries what you're seeking? That seems simple enough for you to think of." She says this as if she did not just have that idea after fifteen minutes of searching.
heylinmagic: (Oh please)

Re: RUDE

[personal profile] heylinmagic 2014-03-31 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
She couldn't help but roll her eyes at the creatures' insults. All that time she spent with that moronic teen that had freed her spirit from that magic puzzlebox she'd been trapped in had left her with quite a tolerance for obnoxious repartee.

She looked even less impressed with the asura's suggestion.
"I typically find asking for help useful only if you can actually tell them what you're looking for."

"Yeah, Alternia never seemed like the greatest place," he admits, apparently not finding much reason to doubt or question her explanation. He smiles a little. "Some of the people seem cool, though."

At least one of them, anyway.

"Some." She agreed.

"So for someone coming to Earth for the first time, what would you suggest in terms so sights and things to check out?" She had been told numerous things and had read even more, but it was the first time she had really had the chance to just talk to a human. Someone who had grown up on this planet and knew it personally.

a

A tiny girl, looking perhaps no older than five, or maybe skip stood in front of a corner bookshop. She was a healthy looking child, with short black hair bound in a bright red ribbon, and a crisp looking simple black dress that fell below her knees. White socks and Mary Janes completed the look of a very smartly dressed and responsible child.

A small donation box hung around her neck labeled Alliance for Childrens' Rights and every so often she swing a bell in her hand to garner attention, giving all passerby a bright smile.

For such a cheerful and healthy looking girl, it would be really hard for anyone to guess that she had been living on her own for going on three weeks.

b

Getting to her new home was always the more difficult part of the day. Yet Matilda had managed, and once she got to the outskirts of the city it was much easier to take flight. She was fortunate in that her powers weren't flashy, and she'd rather no one find out about them.

The desert air was hot and stuffy, but flying brought a welcome breeze and for a moment she simply enjoyed lifting herself up higher and drifting out towards the desert. A big advantage of coming out here was the ability to practice her powers to her hearts content. Being able to use them as much as she liked kept the headaches and pain at bay, and keep those at bay made it easier for her to keep in control.

After a leisurely flight she carefully made herself down to small, shoddily constructed hovel of stone. It really only served to keep the sun and creatures out, but it was where she made her bed and stored her food. That was all she really needed, honestly, and it was more home than her parents' house had ever been.

Shockwave | Transformers Prime

[personal profile] cyclogical 2014-04-25 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Any wandering desert dwellers may notice an interesting sight today. Right out in the middle of nowhere, in the scorching heat of midday, is a large, mono-eyed robotic addition to an innocuous looking network tower.

With a touch all too gentle for someone that has a tank cannon for a left arm, Shockwave plugs in to the tower and makes easy work of the data stream, situating himself as he gathers information on the world he'd found himself on.

Following Megatron's signal is what caused him to visit this rather unfortunate looking planet, with an extenuating set of circumstances that led Shockwave to logically conclude that he would be stuck for a while. Arrival by Space Bridge left his presence mostly unknown for the first few days, unless nearby Decepticon scanners were tuned to the frequency he'd used on arrival, but he doesn't expect any help.

He is on an alien planet and needed to establish a base before moving forward.

[personal profile] starscheme 2014-04-25 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Starscream has been finding himself taking a lot of 'leisure' flights lately, what with the Decepticon base being inhabited by an extremely irate Megatron and an even more mopey Orion Pax. ...Okay so in truth he is mostly avoiding Megatron. It's for the best really. The less time they spend in each other's presence, the less of a chance there is that Starscream will say or do something that will constitute the final straw.

At any rate he is currently making his way back from the coast, casually performing the occasional mid air twist or roll out of sheer boredom. He's been scanning for any signs of synthetic energon, of course, in the event that he locate a lead on their current quarry, but so far nothing has turned up. Typical. His scans do turn something up though: A Decepticon signal... an odd find, considering that as far as Starscream recalls everyone present should be back on board the ship and otherwise preoccupied. Unless Knock Out was out for a drive and shirking his duties again...

Which wasn't too much of a stretch to assume, honestly. And if he was correct, then this was the perfect opportunity for Starscream to pull rank and harass him, which would be welcome catharsis from the shit couple of weeks he's been having. Without a second thought he veers off towards the source, arriving on the scene in a flash and landing with a quick Transformation after double checking for the absence of any humans.

He's all swagger and confidence until he locates who's really at the source of the signal. Then he just positively droops like a balloon slowly losing all of its hot air, mouth hanging open stupidly as the smug reprimand he'd been preparing to dish out is cut off before he can even vocalize it.

Starscream grabs his attention the moment he nears in his jet mode - the sound of turbines are difficult to miss. Shockwave still draws power to his cannon even after the telltale sound of transformation, out of caution, mostly. He has cables buried into the data tower with information dancing across his vision. He wasn't exactly in a defensible position.

When Starscream is the one that slips out of his earth jet mode, the weapon lowers. There's a slight rise of the shoulders, a slight tilt of the helm that said Starscream was the last person he wanted to meet right now. Gross.

"You survived," he adds coldly, referring to the last battle in which Starscream mysteriously disappeared while it went to shit. Again.
starscheme: ((Lemongrab shriek))

[personal profile] starscheme 2014-04-25 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Gross? Wow Shockwave. The feeling is mutual.

He's just going to ignore that rather rude, leading statement (it's not like military issues are any of Shockwave's business anyway) and cut right to the heart of the issue: "What are you doing here!?" Starscream splutters in disgust, as if Shockwave's mere presence on the same planet as him is an affront to his refined sensibilities.
cyclogical: (Default)

[personal profile] cyclogical 2014-04-25 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Shockwave takes a moment to peel away from the network tower so that he can focus on Starscream and his 'refined sensibilities'. Cables are pulled out and snapped free as he turns to face him fully. The data stream stopped.

"Megatron has not kept contact for the last several weeks. It was imperative that he be found," a short and simple enough explanation. Starscream didn't need to know any more details. Shockwave's mission wasn't about him. It was about someone more important.
