A tiny girl, looking perhaps no older than five, or maybe skip stood in front of a corner bookshop. She was a healthy looking child, with short black hair bound in a bright red ribbon, and a crisp looking simple black dress that fell below her knees. White socks and Mary Janes completed the look of a very smartly dressed and responsible child.

A small donation box hung around her neck labeled Alliance for Childrens' Rights and every so often she swing a bell in her hand to garner attention, giving all passerby a bright smile.

For such a cheerful and healthy looking girl, it would be really hard for anyone to guess that she had been living on her own for going on three weeks.

Getting to her new home was always the more difficult part of the day. Yet Matilda had managed, and once she got to the outskirts of the city it was much easier to take flight. She was fortunate in that her powers weren't flashy, and she'd rather no one find out about them.

The desert air was hot and stuffy, but flying brought a welcome breeze and for a moment she simply enjoyed lifting herself up higher and drifting out towards the desert. A big advantage of coming out here was the ability to practice her powers to her hearts content. Being able to use them as much as she liked kept the headaches and pain at bay, and keep those at bay made it easier for her to keep in control.

After a leisurely flight she carefully made herself down to small, shoddily constructed hovel of stone. It really only served to keep the sun and creatures out, but it was where she made her bed and stored her food. That was all she really needed, honestly, and it was more home than her parents' house had ever been.
