TEST DRIVE MEME #1

No gimmicky dinosaur setup this time round, since the game is actually rolling now! If you've got a character you want to try out in this setting, make a thread with them on here, and if you don't, see if you can tag other people with your characters.

Test drive threads can be anything you like, in-person or online, just make it clear which one your thread is when you start it. Make sure to put the name of the character and what canon they're from in the subject, so people know who they are and where they come from.

Can I use test drive threads as samples for my app?

Hello. I'm afraid I'm new here, so you'll forgive me if I blunder a little. I've only recently moved to the city, however, and I'm wondering if there are any rules I should perhaps be aware of when it comes to using my... less usual abilities in a public arena.

If anyone could inform me before I cause some kind of unexpected scene, that would be lovely. Thank you in advance.

i mean you probably should kind of generally try not to freak people out, and stuff. do you have a secret identity?

Of course I do. I'm not entirely naive.

What happens if what I can do is somewhat likely to... "freak people out" just by its nature?

Somewhere in one of LA's retail districts, a store keeper is having one of the most stressful customers of their life.

Mostly because said character seems a four foot tall crab who can speak more English than anybody ever needed to hear, while also using their four separate grasping appendages to fondle everything in sight.

"Oh my god," the crab enthuses in their sort of strange, nasally voice. "Earth stuff is so cool. How did you guys even make this shit? Wow."

The shop keeper is so far mostly just keeping their distance.

"Sir? Uh...sir...please don't...never mind."

don't do it in public unless you're wearing a superhero costume and fighting some kind of crime? i mean people are pretty okay with powers and stuff in LA but if it's something really uh.... weird, they might not be able to handle it?

i mean are you like peeling your skin off, or what?

A costume? Really?

No, I mostly have a variety of defensive magic and some very limited physical abilities. Some people do find my vanishing act a little surprising, though.

What kind of magic?

HOLY CRAB THAT IS A GIANT CRAB.

An alien? Are there giant crab aliens in peaceful cooperation with Earth? Whatever the case, he was clearly new to the planet or at least, it's merchandise. Making a first impression was important.

"Excuse me Sir." Or.. Ma'am? "As a member of Earth's government, let me be one of the first to say welcome to the greatest city on the planet."

If the crab has a problem with being addressed as 'sir' they don't show it. Instead they just whirl around to face her, still holding about four different objects simultaneously.

"Oh my god, is it seriously the best one? That's so lucky, this is like the only time I've been here!"

yes? how else would people know you're a superhero? unless you just don't have a secret identity at all.

Pretty much all Gaz has been doing for the past few hours is hog the shit out of all the good arcade games, and she's not showing any signs of stopping anytime soon. Plus, she's only gotten like two game overs all day - it's not looking good for anyone else who might want a turn.

Yes, I know what earth magic would usually entail. Any particular method?

I've never really felt the need to let people know before. And usually, it's easy enough to keep my identity hidden by wearing different clothes.

right but then it's like, who's this random person doing magic in the middle of the street? is he good? is he evil? how are people supposed to know, you know?

isn't that basically a uniform, keeping your identity hidden by wearing different clothes.

It's approaching midnight, and this troll has been following you for a while now. At least they seem to be a troll. They rare to find anywhere on Earth these days, but their image is well known. The grey skin beneath the cloak and the orange horns give it away.

Though they are quiet on their feet, the bright red fabric of their exterior clothing makes their presence somewhat obvious. They are keeping their distance for now, but their presence alone is enough to make most people nervous, when they're acting like this. They are a species best known for repeatedly trying to invade Earth, after all.

Every once in a while, you catch the glow of red beneath their hood.

Presumably by the bit where I am not the one robbing banks, laughing maniacally and threatening to hold the city hostage, or anything like that.

No, I merely change from one set of regular clothing to a different set of regular clothing in a different style. A costume implies something rather different.

Never had much luck with them. Still, congratulations on achieving something, at least.

Again, not really a school of magic I have much to do with. Still, I shall do my best to avoid even the appearance of it.
