TEST DRIVE MEME #0

A TIME VORTEX has opened in downtown LA! Some magic folks have been contacted to close it, but they haven't gotten here fast enough for the vortex not to spill out a HECK TON OF DINOSAURS – all kinds of dinosaurs of all kinds of sizes. There are theoretically gentle herbivores among the fierce predators, but they are all pretty pissed off about their sudden, startling relocation, and a lot of them have spikes.

(The vortex is both temporally and spatially unstable, which is why the dinosaurs emerging onto the streets of LA are constrained neither by specific prehistorical era nor geographical location.)

What you do is up to you. Here are some suggestions, though:

Fight some dinosaurs. You might be trying to herd them back to the vortex, or just trying to stop them by any means possible.

Flee or hide. If you're lucky the dinosaurs won't work out how to open doors and you can spend your entire thread hiding behind the bar in a Starbucks with some other hapless civilians without having to confront any of them.

Try to capture the dinosaurs on camera. If you can get some really good photos you might be able to sell them to the local paper in order to supplement your elderly aunt's meagre income. Or just use them to get a bunch of notes on Tumblr, either way.

Take advantage of the chaos to do crime. The forces of law enforcement are preoccupied with all these prehistoric reptiles.

Or pretty much anything else you think your character might be doing. Any location in LA is game, although there's no real need to meticulously look them up – you can just assume a generic street, rooftop, store, etc. (You don't have to look up the dinosaurs, either.)

If you have a character who you'd like to assume is part of a team, but that team hasn't been named or brainstormed OOC yet or anything, feel free to indicate in your opening post that you're assuming your character is operating alongside others and encourage others to tag in as if they are part of the same team! Or just handwave it and assume they got caught without their usual teammates or separated from them. Whatever way works best for you.

Events from this test drive are not automatically assumed game canon, but individual threads can be if you and the people who you thread with end up mutually wanting to keep them.

[He took a quick look around for the nearest flier, gestured in that direction and headed off.]

Meanwhile we have more of these creatures to stop.

[Dirk nods. He still doesn't know if this guy -Lightline - is trustworthy, but he seems alright, and it would be nice to have him as a resource.

Dirk races after him, intent on showing off some more. He picks out what Lightline seems to be heading for and speeds up, trying to beat him there.]

[Tron glanced over as the kid sped past him. Of course they were trying to stop the creatures as soon as possible, but it still seemed a little over the top.

He grinned under his helmet, recognizing a race, and accelerated his jet, catching up on the kid almost immediately. It was pretty difficult to outrun a lightjet.]

[Miriel follows the movement of the crowd not because she is a frightened civilian, but because she is studying the frightened civilians. How do people react when dinosaurs appear? A fascinating query, and not one many scientists have the opportunity to answer. She has gathered substantial data so far, but there is more research to be done.

It is when the civilians have entered the building at the behest of the uniquely-clad man beside her – he has the air of a superhero about him – that he begins to speak to her. His words imply that he thinks her a civilian. It's not an entirely misplaced assumption, given the information he has. She is dressed in civilian clothing, after all.

She turns to him and adjusts her glasses.] Your attempts at emotional consolation are appreciated but ultimately unnecessary; these time-traveling creatures pose no threat to me.

This man -- alien life form, whatever he is -- Baelheit cannot help but find his manner rather tiresome, but whatever flicker of annoyance he might feel is overridden by his undeniable curiosity. He'll put up with this Commander Starscream's petulant manner for now -- at least until he knows what he has to offer.

"That can be arranged," Baelheit says, looking rather unruffled given the situation. "I believe I can make use of a private hangar of a colleague of mine. I can ensure we won't be interrupted. Would that be suitable?"

[Dirk glares at Lightline as he speeds by. But he can deal with being beaten by superior technology. Maybe if he gets in this guy's good graces he can even try the thing out himself.

There's only one way to kick someone's ass that's cooler than with a katana. Well, there's two, but there's only one you can use on a pterodactyl. Dirk decaptchalogues Lil Cal, preparing for a puppet beatdown.]

[At this point Tron's far enough ahead he doesn't see what the kid's up to.

Soon as he's near enough to the dinosaur he turns on the light trail and starts breaking off it's escape for Timaeus.]

[Dirk once again waits for the dinosaur to almost reach him. When it's in a good spot he flash-jumps at it again, but this time he doesn't reappear. All that's really visible is his weird puppet, who seems to be trying to beat up the pterodactyl on his own. The dinosaur tries to snap at him, but he's too fast.]

"Perfectly", he says, beaming benignly. "We will need some way to contact each other, of course... " He flourishes a hand unecessarily. "If you check your personal computer you will find a comm link frequency on which you can reach me.... my schedule is wide open, of course."

Baelheit is a patient man -- that much is evident -- but his patience is certainly being tried with all of these networked individuals directly accessing his personal computer. He supposes there is only so much that can be done against cyborgs and cybernetic organisms from other planets, but really, he'll have to speak to his head of information security about this.

Starscream clearly has something of a flair for the dramatic. Baelheit has never understood such things. "I assure you, you will hear from me shortly," he says. "Until then, Commander Starscream."

"Hmmmm. I look forward to it." The avatar smirks and, with a polite bow, flickers and disappears.

[Tron had glided out of the way when the kid got close, but twisted around in his seat to in a double take when he saw the kid's move as he circled around on the jet.

Was that some sort of human toy? What the hell wad the kid up to? He reached back to grab his disk, activating the edges as he flew closer. Last he checked felt dolls weren't much of a weapon.]

[They sadly are not much of a direct weapon at all. The best Dirk can do is smack someone really fast with one of Cal's limbs like a whip or something. It's definitely not doing any damage to a pterodactyl. But it is distracting it, even if Dirk doesn't really need that advantage with these things, and it's fun to boot.

The pterodactyl has apparently decided it's had enough and tries to make its escape, but like the last one it just ends up with a sword in its back. Dirk kicks off of it and lands on his rocket board, Cal hanging around his neck.]

[Danny was in the middle of creating ice-walls, trying to keep the dinosaurs contained or guiding them back towards the portal, when he spotted Jake.]

Dude, what the heck are you doing?
