TEST DRIVE MEME #0

A TIME VORTEX has opened in downtown LA! Some magic folks have been contacted to close it, but they haven't gotten here fast enough for the vortex not to spill out a HECK TON OF DINOSAURS – all kinds of dinosaurs of all kinds of sizes. There are theoretically gentle herbivores among the fierce predators, but they are all pretty pissed off about their sudden, startling relocation, and a lot of them have spikes.

(The vortex is both temporally and spatially unstable, which is why the dinosaurs emerging onto the streets of LA are constrained neither by specific prehistorical era nor geographical location.)

What you do is up to you. Here are some suggestions, though:

Fight some dinosaurs. You might be trying to herd them back to the vortex, or just trying to stop them by any means possible.

Flee or hide. If you're lucky the dinosaurs won't work out how to open doors and you can spend your entire thread hiding behind the bar in a Starbucks with some other hapless civilians without having to confront any of them.

Try to capture the dinosaurs on camera. If you can get some really good photos you might be able to sell them to the local paper in order to supplement your elderly aunt's meagre income. Or just use them to get a bunch of notes on Tumblr, either way.

Take advantage of the chaos to do crime. The forces of law enforcement are preoccupied with all these prehistoric reptiles.

Or pretty much anything else you think your character might be doing. Any location in LA is game, although there's no real need to meticulously look them up – you can just assume a generic street, rooftop, store, etc. (You don't have to look up the dinosaurs, either.)

If you have a character who you'd like to assume is part of a team, but that team hasn't been named or brainstormed OOC yet or anything, feel free to indicate in your opening post that you're assuming your character is operating alongside others and encourage others to tag in as if they are part of the same team! Or just handwave it and assume they got caught without their usual teammates or separated from them. Whatever way works best for you.

Events from this test drive are not automatically assumed game canon, but individual threads can be if you and the people who you thread with end up mutually wanting to keep them.

She just about barely notices Neku launching an attack, and blinks for a moment. Oh, so he did have powers... in which Amane didn't really show any reaction too. Her face stayed in the same deadpan expression.

"I see... if you fight, then, there is no reason you should flee." Garuda flies back a bit, swerving past one of the larger and bulkier herbivores.

Turning to the dinosaurs, she surveys the scene and begins to speak. "Direct me as you please."

Neku crosses his arms, huffy.

"Direct-- I'm not here to babysit. In fact I was just on my way out of the area before.... Before I got caught up in that mess."

Shoving his hands in his pockets he turns to leave. "There's plenty of other super powered freaks around here to handle the situation, they don't need my help."

"...If you plan on leaving, bear in mind that the destruction will be widespread. Stay alert." That's basically how she says you might not make it out alive. She's not used to the 'freak' sentiment, but doesn't really cringe all that much.

She turns back to the dinosaurs, and sends more holy magic to fend them off-

-until a pterosaur swoops by and gets its claws all over her trailing sleeves.

Upon hearing the noises of collision followed by pterosaur screeching, he freezes, groaning internally. Dammit, he'd love to just walk away from this..... but she DID just help him out..... He turns back around and, gritting his teeth in concentration, uses his telekinesis to try and at least hold the pterosaur stationary so that she can get herself untangled from the fluttery bastard.

She immediately tenses up and tries to wrench free, but the world's moving too quick and her demons are too loud- when the pterosaur seems to pause midair for a moment, Amane regrets not having much physical ability, but still manages to shoot fire from her hands into the pterosaur's face.

When it screeches and she begins to fall, she wants to call for Garuda- but a DS suddenly falls out her sleeve, and her eyes widen. "No...!" She reaches for the device futilely, it's out of her reach, it's gonna shatter and break and-

Neku winces, chastising himself internally for being a fucking idiot and just making things worse, dammit this is why he tries not to involve himself in this shit- and then he realizes that he's picking up on her distress, letting it overwhelm him...

Launching forward he focuses on freezing the descent of the girl and the device both, or at the very least slowing the fall. He shakily lowers her to the ground, head ringing slightly from the effort.

...It slows down?

Amane grabs it with her two hands, and Garuda finally flies in beneath her and carries her off. She stares in slight confusion at the COMP, and presses a few controls to make sure it's still working, before looking down and realizing the boy is still there.

He did seem to have psychic abilities... so did he...?

She lands on the floor, summoning Vidofnir- another giant golden bird- and making them stand guard this time. "...You saved me. Thank you very much. ...May I ask, what's your name?"

He kind of jumps at the sight of the birds; he can't put his finger on it but they remind him of something unsettling.....

Focusing on the matter at hand, Neku's first instinct, as usual, is to be as prickly as possible and blow off the conversation, but considering they both just mutually saved each other's asses......

Tugging nervously at a lock of hair, he mutters: "Neku. Neku Sakuraba."

"Neku Sakuraba..." Amane smiles slightly, trying- and perhaps, failing slightly- to look grateful. "I'll remember that name. I am the Maiden, member of the Trailblazers."

The dinosaurs seem to be flying from their general area, with the pterosaur having received a Maragidyne to the face. "...Do you still wish to leave?"

Shuffling his feet a bit, he looks around uncomfortably. "I'm not really... This kind of thing isn't really my scene." For some reason he's having a hard time being rude to this girl. She's just too calm, or something...

"I see. The dinosaurs in this area are retreating- you may want to take your chance." The smile fades away, but doesn't really drop- she looks over her shoulder serenely, making sure those demons are still there.

"You do possess powers, though... I'm sure this won't be the last time I'm seeing you."

He tilts his head, frowning slightly, deep in thought. "Yeah, maybe...... um. Well... Good luck out there I guess."
