TEST DRIVE MEME #1

No gimmicky dinosaur setup this time round, since the game is actually rolling now! If you've got a character you want to try out in this setting, make a thread with them on here, and if you don't, see if you can tag other people with your characters.

Test drive threads can be anything you like, in-person or online, just make it clear which one your thread is when you start it. Make sure to put the name of the character and what canon they're from in the subject, so people know who they are and where they come from.

Can I use test drive threads as samples for my app?
Indeed you may, fair stranger

Can I decide a test drive thread is game canon?
Heck yeah you can, provided the person you threaded it with is cool with that too!

Starscream listens to Shockwave's explanation with a blank look on his face, and then suddenly he's letting out a bark of laughter. He swells up once more like goddamn peacock, an obnoxiously smug smirk spreading across his face.

"Hasn't kept in contact with you perhaps. Seems someone is a bit out of the loop," he purrs, crossing his arms and leering at the scientist. "I'm actually out on a bit of business for him at this very moment. I'm surprised that you aren't as well!"

Shockwave just watches him as he puffs himself up. He should probably feel more devastated at the news and all, but this was Starscream. It's more likely Megatron caught him running off and was keeping an eye on him.

"Then you have a base on this planet. I will need the coordinates," he says, sounding as if he had zero shits to give about his social status with Megatron - or Starscream's business with him. Until Starscream can start designing proper world-threatening death rays, he's going to consider his science funding securely confirmed.

"Who said anything about there being a base on this planet?" he asks looking suddenly unimpressed, one eyebrow arching up. "Presumptuous."

Deep down he knows that he's going to have to bring Shockwave back to base eventually, whether he wants to or not. He can't risk pissing Megatron off any more than he already has. But that doesn't mean he has to be polite about it.

Severa | Fire Emblem: Awakening

[personal profile] squanderlust 2014-05-06 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
a.

All right. Time to hit the weights to make sure she could still heft this four-foot sword with one hand. Severa let out a rare smile in the mirror at her own appearance, all gym-clothes-ed up, and headed out of the locker room to the floor. Trailblazer or not, she had to keep a regular workout schedule to make sure she was still in top fighting shape, especially because she didn't have any powers to help her along like some others she knew.

What was her schedule like today, anyway? Right, okay. Upper body, then a break, then half her regular leg day stuff because she'd pushed herself pretty hard there earlier in the week. Hopefully nobody would bother her while she was trying to get some actual work done. At least she wasn't popular or noteworthy enough to get recognized yet. Probably.

b.

Crap. Severa played by the rules whenever she could, but she did have a tendency of playing rough with the rules. So to hear that the Trailblazers had protocols that were actually meant to be followed, instead of just guidelines, left her pretty disheartened. Not that she was showing it; moving in was her biggest priority right now anyway. But come on, she was a descendant of Scáthach, how much supervision did she need? Ugh.

Her sword, still in its scabbard, fell to the floor from being propped up on the wall. She hadn't gotten its mount out yet, and four feet of metal made a lot of noise. Double crap. She hadn't planned on meeting any more of the Trailblazers today, but with her luck so far today, she'd probably have the whole floor come running. She'd tend to the claymore in time. Better get everything else settled first, or she'd risk the same thing happening again.

TAKE A THIRD OPTION

[you know, just whatever, i'll figure out a way to get her there]

Cynthia made her way down the hall, inquisitively peeking into every room she knew wasn't occupied. Her new teammate had to be around here somewhere. Cynthia hadn't gotten the chance to meet her earlier, but she sure as heck wasn't going to just go on without setting aside some time to introduce herself. Though finding her wouldn't have taken long anyway, seeing as how there wasn't an exorbitant amount of unoccupied rooms, the process was accidentally expedited by the loud clang from a room further down the hall.

Cynthia's curiosity got the better of her, so she walked toward the source of the noise and poked her head into the doorway. Upon seeing the person she was looking for, she smiled wide. "Hi!" she exclaimed, stepping further into view. "You're Severa, right?" A quick look around the room told Cynthia that Severa was still getting settled in, and the large sword on the floor explained the noise from before.

"Not sure who else I'd be," Severa said with her back turned, still digging through her belongings. Among strangers, she kind of preferred Highlander, but that was just one more thing she relinquished her control over when she joined the Trailblazers. She turned around with a wooden plaque—the mount she'd been looking for—in both her hands. It wasn't as heavy as it looked. Well, not to her.

"If you're here to help me move in, I've got it covered." She tried hiding a judgmental look—not to be memetic, but did this girl even lift? How could they let someone like her on the team? Severa dropped the mount on her bed and let it settle before continuing. "This is probably heavier than you're used to, anyway."

"Thanks for the concern," Cynthia said earnestly, "but I'm stronger than I look!" The possibility that Severa didn't intend that comment to sound concerned crossed Cynthia's mind, but she decided it was unlikely. What kind of person made disparaging comments to someone they just met, after all? Certainly not someone who was Trailblazer material. Well, there was Karkat, but everyone knew he didn't mean most of it.

"Are you sure you don't want any help, though? The sooner you finish this, the sooner you can jump into team bonding activities without any worries, and two are faster than one." Cynthia knew she should probably let her new teammate rest and get used to her new room before recruiting her to participate in team bonding activities, but she was just so excited. New teammates meant new friends, and new friends meant lots of fun new experiences.

[personal profile] squanderlust 2014-05-09 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Team bonding. Sure. What an excellent use of time that she could be spending getting better at swordplay. Or seeing if the kitchen had anything of use to her. Or any number of other things that didn't necessarily involve other people. Still, she'd seen this kind of annoying steadfastness in people before and had the idea that this girl wouldn't exactly leave easily. She bent over to pick up the claymore, making sure to turn away so she could roll her eyes in peace.

"If you insist. My sword is the only really important thing here anyway." Which wasn't an entire lie. It was hundreds of years old, after all, and she couldn't trust just anyone with it. Her back straightened; she brought the sword up with her and walked back over to her bed to lay it down below the mount. "You can start with that box."

She indicated a box with open flaps, packed full of books on medieval weaponry. She'd already set up a small bookshelf, but hadn't gotten around to filling it yet. Presumably this girl could at least put two and two together.

YIKES i am so sorry about the wait, this tag got lost during my hiatus!

[personal profile] civilizedcombat 2014-05-24 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Cynthia was almost a little offended by the subtle implication that she couldn't be trusted to handle important things, but she shrugged it off. She knew not everyone liked having their stuff handled by other people. Keeping an open mind was crucial when getting to know new people, and, by golly, she wasn't going to stop now.

So, instead of commenting on any of that, she said, "Sure thing!" She picked the box up with a bit of effort and brought it closer to the bookshelf so that unpacking the books would be easier. As she knelt down and began putting books on the shelf, she took note of the books' covers. One had a particularly interesting cover image, so she opened the book up at a random page and started skimming the text.

"Whoa..." she mumbled, awed by the sheer quantity of information on this subject. Her eyes stopped on a section about the many technicalities of medieval lance heads. After several more moments of reading, she turned back to Severa. "So you're really into this sort of stuff, huh? I don't have any real weapons training – yet," she interjected with a sort of cheerful determination, "but all of this seems awesome."

Here is a woman who looks out of place. Mulan is wearing a colorful and simple hanfu: dark blue, teal, and red with a sash around her waist. She's aware of the looks she is getting and while it does make her self conscious, she's certain she'd feel much more so wearing some of the more modern clothing. In any case, odd as she might seem for her clothing there are much odder things in this city so she feels safe that it will not become an issue.

It felt odd to be alive again. It almost felt like no time had passed since she had awakened--simply sentience inside an egg that had nearly been nothing but stone for centuries. In that time of incubation knowledge had come pouring into her, but knowing and experiencing were two different things and to see what the world had become was a fascinating (and at times horrifying) adventure.

Her feet began to slow when a casino came into view in the distance, so bright, so gaudy with images of dancing girls in their lights and a parking lot brimming with cars. So fixed was she on it that she wasn't watching where she was going and ended up bumping right into someone.

"Oh! I am sorry!"

Grimlock | Transformers Animated

No gimmicky dinosaur setup my ASS

In the Angeles National Forest, just north of the city, there's a disturbance going on. The ground in the vicinity shakes, as if from massive footsteps. Campers are fleeing and screaming something about a tyrannosaurus rex breathing fire all over the damn place.

If you locate the source of the disturbance you will see that they are in fact not wrong about there being a T-Rex in the woods, but they left out a very important detail: It's a robot. There's a freaking robotic T-Rex stomping through the national forest, stepping on things with its big clumsy feet and breaking down trees and occasionally eating a lot of wood for fuel so it can roar and belch fire at the sky, which on the odd occasion it does belch fire into the sky it seems very ecstatic about the fact that it has the capability to do that. Destructive and otherwise angry as it seems, it also seems to, every now and then, show signs of confusion, and will babble things about a sea base and metal rooms and someone named "Albert".

What's really going down is that TRIDENT is giving it's newest weapon prototype a field run, though your character isn't likely to know that unless they are involved with the organization. From an outside perspective all you need to know is there is a metal dinosaur wrecking the wonders of nature and you should probably either fight it or try to talk some sense into it before it starts a forest fire with its enthusiastic displays of pyrotechnics.

Bigby had seen more than his fair share of weird shit back in Fabletown. And being sheriff had meant that his nose had always been right in the thick of everyone’s messiest…and ugliest affairs. He’d dealt with beasts, trolls, goblins…toads…But this place? It was something else. Oddities of all sorts moved up and down the streets with ease, stirring up chaos every damned day. You couldn’t even count on a walk in the woods if you wanted some peace and quiet.

So when he hears all of the screaming and the rumbling in the distance it feels like business as usual. That is, until he actually turns the corner and sees the source of the ruckus.

“Ah shit.” He mutters to himself – tossing his cigarette onto the ground and stamping on the lit end.

Whatever it is, it’s big and mechanical without any scent - probably a mundy weapon of sorts…except that it seemed to be acting on his own. Bigby scowls as he watches it rampage – knowing that even at his full, transformed height of 8 feet, he still might not be able to match this thing by himself. But being sheriff these past (however many) years had instilled in him the tendency to at least make an attempt at asking questions first. He moves closer, his body tensing as he calls out to the giant creature.

“Hey! You! Yes, you! Just what the hell are you doing?”

Normally Rex wouldn't be dealing with this kind of thing, since Providence's jurisdiction was pretty strictly fighting mutated monsters. But they'd been nearby when a call came through about a dinosaur on a rampage, and Rex was not going to pass up a chance like that. Fighting giant robots wasn't that difficult for someone like Rex, injected with nanites which allowed him to build machines from his body and gave him a host of other superhuman abilities. He'd jumped out of the jet as they came over the forest, commanding his nanites to build a jetpack off of his shoulders to fly to the supplied coordinates. Just in time too, before the thing caused any more damage, even from afar you could tell the forest was not in great condition.

But as he flew over the treetops to get closer, he couldn't help but grin like a huge dork. A dinosaur. A robot dinosaur. Breathing fire. This was going to be so awesome. He took a moment to appreciate that his job allowed him to be in a place where he could fight robot dinosaurs before picking up speed and pulling up short in front of the t-rex, hovering in place around eye level.

"Better stop with the fireworks, big guy, unless you want to deal with me." He sent a mental command to his nanites, building a pair of over sized fists to emphasize the point.

Grimlock doesn't seem to hear, or at least acknowledge Bigby's presence, continuing to stomp around heedless of his scolding. He turns this way and that, snorting, and hits a tree with his tail; when birds launch shrieking from it into the sky he whips around suddenly and takes a few snaps at them, letting out a roar and a belch of flame when he misses all of them.

Why he has such a sudden vendetta against birds is anyone's guess.

"HMMMM?" Grimlock grunts, tiny little optics coming to focus on the human hovering in front of him. "Human? Fly...?" Humans aren't supposed to fly, except... he remembers some of his programming from TRIDENT, protocol for dealing with super humans, which he had been assured that he would inevitably come across and that they would very likely try to kill him.

Remembering that, his uneven optics go wide, and he snorts a puff of air in Rex's direction. "Hmm! Flying human bad! Me Grimlock DESTROY!!!"

And then he proceeds to take a snap at him.

[personal profile] naniteoverload 2014-09-11 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Rex easily managed to evade the giant fangs, he'd expected something like that to happen. He hadn't really expected the thing to talk back to him, but hey, why not? He darted out of the attack before coming in closer.

"Yeah well, this flying human's going to kick your butt if you don't give it a rest." He shot forward through the air, swinging his arm in an uppercut aimed at Grimlock's jaw.
menobozo: (Default)

[personal profile] menobozo 2014-09-11 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Grimlock had been charging up a nice 'lil flamethrower for him when that uppercut catches him square. He goes flying back, spitting flames in an arc as he goes. He rolls back onto his feet and charges forward with a horrible screeching roar at full tilt, aiming to catch Rex with a vicious headbutt.

[personal profile] naniteoverload 2014-09-11 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Turns out Rex's reflexes aren't exactly faster than a rampaging t-rex, just barely managing to throw up his arms in defense before Grimlock hits him like a train. His metal gauntlets take most of the impact, the metal groaning and some of the more fragile pieces breaking off.

A little dazed from the force of the hit, Rex scrambles to keep a hold on Grimlock's forehead before he slid into his mouth or something equally dumb. He recalls the nanites from the jetpack build before that gets snapped off and to shed the extra weight. Not exactly how he had planned on this fight starting out.

The dinobot skids to a stop and goes cross-eyed, trying to comprehend that his target is now attached to his face and not being thrown across the forest with the force of his mighty headbutt like he had been expecting.

He tosses his head and waves his stubby little arms in a useless attempt to dislodge him, letting out a frustrated roar. "Boy let go! Let go and face me Grimlock like DINOBOT!!!"

And then he angrily smashed his head into a tree.

[personal profile] whatbigteethyouhave 2014-09-11 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
A low, frustrated growl rumbles in Bigby’s throat when he’s ignored, but the simple fact that he is ignored almost helps to make him feel less threatened. If there’s anything to note about the creature’s actions, it’s that there doesn’t seem to be any real purpose to them. Mundy machines usually didn’t work like that from his experience – they were made to be precise and efficient. So there was something different about this one.

Bigby breaks into a run towards the beast and triggers a mild transformation as he does – feeling strength course through his veins. As the distance between them closes, he leaps up the branches of nearby tree and tries to make himself more noticeable.

Hey! I’m talking to you!”

[personal profile] naniteoverload 2014-09-11 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
"WOOOOAAAHH!"

Rex can barely keep his grip as Grimlock starts shaking his head around, and his arms as aching as he keeps flopping against Grimlock's metal plating. He doesn't even notice the tree until he is crashing into it. The damaged builds on his arms finally fracture, leaving him tumbling through the air before landing on the ground. Hard.

He gets up with a groan, wincing as he turns back to face Grimlock. So maybe fighting this thing wasn't going to be as easy as he thought. He builds out his jetpack again, taking to the air to try and maintain the higher ground, so to speak.

"Alright, big guy, if you're not going to go down, maybe I can shut you down." If he could get in close enough to touch this guy, his nanites might be able to override the robot to shut down, though with something this size there was the possibility it wouldn't work. And he'd have to get near with out being swatted out of the air or burned to a crisp.

Grimlock does finally notice him- sort of- he whirls around, tiny little eyes searching for the source of the sound. He's not having much luck though?

"HMM? Who said thing!?"
menobozo: (Default)

[personal profile] menobozo 2014-09-11 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Grimlock doesn't understand any of that. All he sees is prey trying to make it's escape. As Rex takes to the air, he leaps up and down, snapping after him and shooting flames this way and that, causing the earth to shake and dirt to fly under his claws and bulk.

[personal profile] naniteoverload 2014-09-11 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Rex grimaced as he dodged the incoming flames, waiting for Grimlock to pause to charge his flame thrower. Once there was finally an opening he dived, recalling the jetpack just before he crashed onto Grimlock's back, hanging onto the edge of the one of the plates. He reached out a hand, laying his palm flat against the paneling. The metal started glowing with a blue circuit pattern as his nanites infiltrated the machine, accompanied by an increasingly loud thrumming hum. Once he'd made contact, he willed the nanites to shut down the robot.

Come on Come on Come on. WORK. Something was blocking him from getting complete control, but maybe he could at least get him to stop rampaging. Rex changed the command, completely focused on getting something through before he got thrown off again. At least he was pretty sure the dinobot couldn't take a bite out of him from here.

“So you can talk, huh? Well at least now we’re getting somewhere.”

He moves up the tree to some of the higher limbs, balancing at the very edge of a branch facing the creature. Folding his arms, he raises his voice again – easy confidence filling his words.

“Down here!”
